Northeast Christian Church
“Living to Love God, Love One Another and Make Disciples of Jesus”

Northeast Ohio Association of Helpers (NOAH)

We are delighted to announce that we are currently planting three new churches. The Velocity Christian Church in Lyndhurst/South Euclid area in Cleveland just celeated their first year. They have a dynamic worship service on Sunday mornings with a combined worship attendance of about 150. (Through the summer of 2009 and spring of 2010).
Velocity meets in the Kiddie Company facility which used to be an elementary school building in Lyndhurst. They have been engaged in community outreach in a healthy and significant way, even before they moved into their facility and started Sunday morning worship. The congregation is marked by their excellent community service and outreach to youth. Scott Pugh is the lead planter. The church website is www.velocitycc.org

At the same time we are working to plant a church in the Northern Columbus, Ohio area. We are generally targeting the Delaware/Union County area. The Sunday after Easter, Danny Vanscoy II, joined us as the lead planter for this exciting new work. The area that we are considering for this plant is the New California community, between Dublin amd Marysville.

Finally, we are working with the Momentum Christian Church to help them plant a daughter congregation. Although they are only three years old, and still meeting in a rented facility (The ValleyView Cinema's). We are still looking for the best location for this church to target, as well as a lead planter. We do want to affirm the vision and passion of Momentum in undertaking this step of faith and outreach at this time!

An Overview of our Ministry with Pioneer Bible Translators

Happy New Year! We are excited about all that the Lord is doing in our ministry with Pioneer Bible Translators. Some of you are new to our ministry updates, while others have been with us for many years. We thought this would be a good opportunity to bring all of you up to date with a brief summary of our ministry.

After realizing that the Lord was calling him to use his Computer Science background as a missionary, Jeff joined Pioneer Bible Translators in 1986. He spent two years in Papua New Guinea, helping other PBT members to take full advantage of computers and software available for Bible translation work. Energized by this experience, he decided to become a Bible translator and returned to the States to earn his M.Div. During this time, he also developed PBT’s internship program and led teams of interns overseas each summer. He “recruited” Laura when she was a PBT intern in 1992!

After completing Laura’s linguistic training, our partnership development, and our study of French, we arrived in West Africa in 1996. We spent the next thirteen years working alongside the Toma people to translate the Scriptures into their language. With the help of PBT colleague Rondalyn Ohrenberg, we also launched a literacy program to teach Toma people to read their own language.

By late 2009 we had about half of the Bible thoroughly checked and revised, with the rest in rough draft. We had printed Scripture portions and literacy materials, and had produced audiovisuals in the Toma language in collaboration with organizations such as Campus Crusade for Christ, the Navigators, and Gospel Recordings. We had trained nationals as translators and literacy teachers, experiencing the joy of seeing non-literate people not only learn to read, but teach others!

During our entire time in West Africa, the country in which we lived experienced continual political turmoil, resulting in our evacuation in early 2007. We returned later that year, but the instability continued to grow. In the meantime, our close friend and PBT President Greg Pruett had been asking Jeff to come and serve alongside him on the international level. After much prayer, feeling that our translation project was at a point where we could complete it long-distance with less cost to the health of our family, we returned to the States in November 2009.

We now live in the Dallas area, where PBT’s International Service Center is located. We continue to revise the remaining half of the Bible in Toma, corresponding by email with Pastor Jeremie, our West African co-translator. Jeremie is also continuing the literacy program, and is starting up Scripture reading groups as a part of our Scripture Impact initiative among the Toma.

As Executive Vice President for Pioneer Bible Translators, Jeff shares many of the responsibilities of the President, leading a team of over 340 people translating the Bible for 19 million people in 53 languages in 11 countries. As Chief Operations Officer, Jeff supervises 24 people in PBT’s Information Technology, Support Services, and Media, Arts, and Communication departments. As Director of PBT’s International Resource Team, Jeff leads eight International Coordinators who provide help and mentoring to our missionary teams. The goal of our PBT team is to see networks of churches using Scripture to grow and multiply in every language.

In addition to working on the Toma translation, Laura continues to homeschool our two children, Kayla (age 11) and Eric (age 7).  She is the Home School Advisor for PBT, and also serves on the editorial team for PBT’s magazine, The Latest Word.

Next month we will share some of the recent milestones in PBT’s worldwide ministry to the Bible-less. We are so thankful for your prayers and encouragement! We look forward to sharing with you how God’s kingdom is advancing around the world!

Pakistan Christian Evangelistic Services

You can help in Pakistan by praying for these needs:

1. Please pray for the struggling Pakistani people during this time of recovering from the effects of severe flooding. We are thankful for the assistance from Bring Good News and IDES as we ministered in the name of the Lord.

2. Please pray for God’s hand of protection over Saleem and others who are speaking out on behalf of Christians and other minorities in times when Islamic extremists are expanding their activity against them.

3.

Please pray for our Christian sister Martha Boota as she faces difficult struggles because of the Blasphemy accusations, and for wisdom in what PCES can do to help.

4.

BHAGIANA VILLAGE: Praise the Lord that supporters from the USA and Australia sent funds for construction of the church and parsonage, but we need to do the floor and tiling. We praise God that the cross now proclaims its message from high atop the church building.

6. NASH-E-MANN: Please ask the Lord to provide funds for the construction of a church building/ parsonage.

7. KHADIM COLONY: Praise the Lord, the congregation is growing in the Lord. The government supplied running water in the community and we will get connection for the parsonage.

8. WALTON AIRPORT CHURCH: Praise the Lord, progress continues within the church and Adult Education center.

9. LADHI CHURCH: We are thankful for gifts to replace the much-needed boundary wall and gate. We need to put the cross above the church.

10. KANGAN PUR: This newly planted church is making good progress. The Sewing Center is successful.

11. VEER KAI NOU: When we started new evangelistic work there, Muslims threatened. There is a great need to construct a boundary wall around the church land so the congregation may feel secure to worship.

12. GHOHAR VILLAGE in Kasur: Evangelistic work is going well in these unreached villages. The Sewing Machine Center is teaching girls skills so they will not have to make bricks as bond servants.

13. HUSSAIN KHAN WALA: Pray that the Lord will provide funds to complete building the church and parsonage. We are grateful to Perth Messianic Assembly (Australia) for a gift that allowed us to purchase the land and begin construction, and to David and Susanna Combs, who gave a generous gift for walls, parsonage and two toilets. We are praying that Brother Ross could come from Australia for the dedication of the church. Please pray for his trip.

14. We have a vision to build a much-needed hospital in the Kasur area, where we have treated many patients in free medical camps. Please pray for God’s guidance.

15. We are thankful for special gifts for support of daughter Sabreena’s education at Cincinnati Christian University in Ohio. Also, our son Samson started studies at CCU in January. Our older daughter, Samreena, is wanting to study in USA to enhance her medical skills for serving in Pakistan. Please pray for her studies and financial support.

17. We are thankful to the Lord for our PCES board members, churches and friends around the world who support the Gospel in Pakistan.
