“Living to Love God, Love One Another and Make Disciples of Jesus”

About Northeast Christian Church

Northeast Christian is a part of a worldwide fellowship of people whose intention is to be just Christian - nothing more and nothing less.  We acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and we recognize Him as the Head of the Church.

Our Position is quite simple.  We accept the Bible as the inspired record of God’s revelation to man.  We believe that the New Testament is the only Divine rule of faith and practice given to the followers of Christ, and that it contains patterns for both the church and the individual to follow for all generations.

Therefore, we insist only on those matters which the New Testament sets forth as requirements for membership in Christ’s Church.  These are faith in Christ as the Son of God and Savior, repentance from sin, baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin and the gift of the Holy Spirit, followed by faithful commitment to Jesus as His disciple.

Worship, like that of the original church, centers upon Biblical preaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, songs of praise and prayer.  In the breaking of bread, the Lord’s Supper or Communion, we remember the death of Christ for all mankind, and as we partake we proclaim to the world our faith in His ultimate return in glory.

Our MissionOurs is based on the two greatest commandments and the Great Commission (Matthew 22:37-40 and Matthew 28:18-20):

“Living to Love God, Love One Another and Make Disciples of Jesus”

We hope you will join us in living for Jesus as did His apostles and the first century church.

The History of NCC

On November 6, 1983, Northeast Christian Church was born.  God's dream for reaching the Warren area was set in motion with the calling of Mike Derico to the ministry at hand.  Mike, along with 30 other men, women, and children held the first worship service and Sunday school in the history of Northeast Christian Church at the Ali Babba Grotto building on Perkins Jones Road.  NCC was started in cooperation with NOAH (Northeast Ohio Association of Helpers) and Braceville Christian Church.  For the first 10 months of the new ministry, these brothers and sisters in Christ helped with financial and spiritual support to the new congregation.

On August 1, 1984, NCC became financially independent and set down its own constitution.  NCC's purpose was simple, "The purpose of this church shall be the carrying out of the great commission of Christ.  This church recognizes Jesus as the only head of the church and the New Testament as its only rule of faith and practice".  This simple but powerful mission is what NCC has worked to fulfill through the years.

As the mission of the church began to blossom and grow, more people started to come to Christ through NCC's work.  The need  for the church to have its own building arose.  Property was purchased on Perkins Jones Rd and plans were made for the construction of the new building.  On May 15, 1988, the ground was broken for the new building.  The building was dedicated in a special service on January 1, 1989, after months of prayer, work, and financial support.  Through God's blessings the new building helped continue the goal of the congregation to reach the people of Warren with the Gospel of Christ.

The years of faithful service to follow were both fruitful and a blessing.  The church saw many new converts and continued to see God bless the ministry of NCC as it strived to reach out to the community and to fulfill the purpose for which God had placed it in the Warren area.

Then on March 28, 2004, after over 20 years of loving faithful ministry in the Warren area, Mike and Tracey Derico were called to a new ministry.  This was a hard time for the congregation, not only had it lost its minister but it had also lost one of its best leaders and most loved families.  But the mission of Christ would still go on.  The congregation moved forward with the desire to continue to fulfill the purpose, to reach the Warren area for Christ.  The months that followed were months of prayer and work by the whole congregation as they sought out a new minister for the church.  Then on January 2, 2005, efforts were completed as Caleb Penwell was voted in as the second minister in NCC's history.    The Penwell's stayed for almost three years before traveling to Kentucky to begin a new ministry.

On Novemeber 7-9, 2008, Northeast celebrated her 25th anniversary. Guest speakers included Ray Hall from Braceville, Jeff Derico, Mike Derico and Len Derico. DVD's were played from Jay Cottle, Nathan Derico, Michael Cottle, and Laura and Jeff Wilhoit. A letter was read from Bernie (one of NCC's first elders) and Doris Mahara. Special music was done by NCC's Worship Team, Dean and Lisa Heitkamp and Ken Read.  Recognition was given to Braceville Christian Church on behalf of the their vision and support in planting our congregation. The revised Men of Faith "quartet" which included Joe Kovacs, Tom Pattinson, Dave Christy, Leonard Derico, Vic Bell, Brad McCrimmon, and Lonnie Scarlett also sang.

On December 7th, 2008 after one year of prayerful searching, Len Derico will begin as NCC's new pastor. Len actually is the cousin of Mike Derico. He and his wife, Nita, are as excited about ministering at NCC as the congregation.

Mike wrote this statment to the church as it embarked on its journey for Christ.  "Over the next years, we will be sharing together in what promises to be one of the greatest experiences of our lives.  I look forward with you to sharing in this labor of love and to the blessings that will be ours because of our Lord".  It is my hope that you share in this voyage with as as we continue to labor in love for our Lord Jesus Christ.
